BBC is apologizing for airing an offensive image on their morning news show. "BBC Breakfast" was showing a clip of a music video for comedic group Barbershoperas, who was going to appear on the show later, E! News reports.
The image that was broadcast to the world was a doctored engagement photo of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The image of the Duke of Cambridge was doodled with a goatee, a blacked-out tooth, glasses and a penis on his forehead.
The image was only displayed for a few seconds but viewers were able to screen grab the shot and post it on Twitter. They also tweeted to BBC clearly upset over the offensive image. In a statement, BBC said unfortunately they didn't catch the mistake.
"This image was shown fleetingly within a comedy promotional video for Barbershopera, a humorous barbershop group, who were appearing later on in the program," a BBC spokeswoman said to Fox News. "The material was provided by Barbershopera but we failed to spot the offending material within it. We apologize for this."
BBC aired the clip to the song "I Could Have Married Kate." The new father is currently on maternity leave from his job as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot with the Royal Air Force after his wife, Kate Middleton gave birth to their son on July 22.
Prince George, the royal couple's first child, is second in line for the throne. Just one day after giving birth, the Duchess debuted the royal baby to the world on the steps of St. Mary's Hospital before they headed home to Kensington Palace.
"He's a big boy, quite heavy," Prince William said at the time. "Well he has a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure."
The new parents looked happy as they talked about the baby with the Duchess telling reporters that the experience had definitely "been emotional."
