Hardcore "Grey's Anatomy" fans were left in despair a few weeks ago when Patrick Dempsey's character Derek Shepherd was killed off, with Dempsey and creator Shonda Rhimes confirming he would be leaving the medical drama series after 11 seasons.
Although details of Dempsey's sudden departure were not disclosed, insiders are claiming that the actor was fired from the show, with main star Ellen Pompeo being held responsible for his firing.
In an article in the new issue of In Touch (which has since been taken down), sources said Dempsey had been involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with a young female worker on the set. "Ellen Pompeo found out and was angry because she's close friends with Jillian, so of course, she told her," said the source, referring to Jillian Fink, Dempsey's ex-wife.
The source also said Rhimes does not condone unsuitable behavior on set, with the allegations against Dempsey prompting her to write the character out of the show.
The allegations also come after Fink filed for divorce from Dempsey last January, putting an end to their marriage that lasted for 16 years.
