Vince Nappo had no time for pleasantries when he joined The CW series "Reign" as General Renaude in March. He arrived at the airport and was driven directly to set to kill a man.
"It's hard not to have a good time when your first scene on the show is to get in a fight with a guy and then murder him with your bare hands," Nappo tells Headlines & Global News in an exclusive interview.
Renaude has killed many men since that first scene, and Nappo has enjoyed stirring up trouble for the main cast of characters since his arrival. "I think the show is at a time where trust is sparse and he's probably not helped," the actor says.
The cunning mercenary has moved quickly through the ranks to become a trusted member of King Francis' military, but reuniting with his son remains his main objective.
"He's a complicated character. He's trying to find his son who was taken by rebel forces so a lot of his journey is trying to rise in the ranks of the military," Nappo says. "He believes that the higher he climbs, the more people that can help him get things done. I think that's a major driving force for him."
The career soldier seems to move quickly at a lot of things including his relationship with Kenna, who's still technically married to Bash. Although he can't keep his hands off her, Renaude hesitates to go any further until she's no longer married.
"Kenna is pretty straight-up with people. She's got such an independent spirit. I think it's something that Renaude really loves about her that she's very honest," Nappo says.
Whether Renaude survives the finale, Nappo believes he brought some great action and danger to the show during his short arc.
"I feel that he's the type of character where a lot of people actually said or thought, 'I don't know what to make of this guy. I don't know if we can trust him,'" he says, adding that he had "fun" getting to turn things upside down as Renaude.
"Reign" will air its second season finale tonight at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
