A bear was caught steeling a restaurant dumpster by pushing over the bin full of leftover German food, according to Yahoo! News.
It wasn't the bear's first appearance at the Edelweiss restaurant in Colorado Springs, where security cameras have caught the animal serving himself in the food waste.
On Wednesday, the bear pulled a bin a few feet, flipped the container over and opened the lid to eat, according to Yahoo! News. The bear was reportedly eating the Edelweiss' signature dish rouladen - steak pounded and rolled, stuffed with bacon, mustard, onions and pickle, covered in a dark gravy and accompanied by red cabbage and fried potatoes.
"There's some fresh, really good food attracting the bear," Edelweiss manager Dieter Schnakenberg told Yahoo! News. "She passes up the recycling bin and goes right for the good stuff."
Schnakenberg believes the bear is about two-meters tall standing on its hind legs, and has warned the staff to be careful when they approach the trash bins. The bear revisited the restaurant again on Thursday, eating up all it could from the same bins.
According to Yahoo! News, the restaurant is located near downtown Colorado Springs, and "the bear is believed to be following the Cheyenne Creek into the neighbourhood," Schnakenberg said.
The restaurant's management is thinking of ways to solve the issue of the bear tipping over the trash; they may place chains to anchor the bins on a nearby fence. Management is also considering locking the lids to keep the bear out.
Colorado Parks and Wildllife Spokesman Randy Hampton told Yahoo! News conflicts between black bears and people are increasing, and residents are encouraged not keep their trash out unless they are "bear proof."
"The best-case scenario is they secure the dumpster and the bear doesn't come back," Hampton said.
