Google is looking to make it easier for people to buy products on their smartphones, as well as challenge online shopping apps like Amazon and eBay, by including "buy" buttons in its search results on mobile devices.
The buy buttons are set to appear on search results pages in the coming weeks whenever a user looks for certain items. Clicking the buttons will take the user to another page where they will be able to pick options for colors and sizes and enter shipping details, The Wall Street Journal reported. The buttons will only appear in sponsored results and not on all regular results.
The products will still be provided and sold by the retailer and not by Google. Macy's is in talks with the search giant to take part in the launch of the button.
Google and Macy's have yet to providie further details about the project.
The buttons present the opportunity for Google to to integrate online shopping into its search service, according to PC World. The only problem Google could face is a lack of connection between customers and retailers, which the company plans to maintain by letting customers opt in to the same marketing programs they would be provided if they had purchased the item on the store's own website.
There is currently no exact launching date for the buttons, as it was only revealed that they would be available in the coming weeks, purhaps in time for Google's annual I/O conference.
