Dallas Cowboys News: Tony Romo Will Not Play in Hall of Fame Game; Ware, Bryant and Murray WIll Also Sit Out

The Dallas Cowboys will sit quarterback Tony Romo during the Hall of Fame game Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPNDallas.com citing multiple sources.

The Hall of Fame game is played the weekend the NFL inducts its most recent class of legends into the Hall of Fame. The game marks the start of the preseason.

Romo had been able to persuade coaches to let him practice Tuesday when he was supposed to have a day off. He had been attempting to do the same with Sunday’s opener but to no avail.

The 33-year old quarterback is not the only starter that could sit the game. Wide receiver DeMarco Murray, defensive end Demarcus Ware (recovering from shoulder surgery) and wide receiver Dez Bryant could all miss the opener against the Dolphins.

Bryant had not been able to participate in four days of practice due to a sore quad and hip. However, he was back with the team on Thursday.

One factor that is causing some starters to sit is the weak offensive line the Cowboys currently have due to injury. The current unit has not gotten enough time to play together.

There has been speculation that Romo is still slightly hampered by a back surgery he had in March to remove a cyst. Although the procedure caused him to miss the entire offseason, Cowboys officials said the surgery did not play a part in the decision.

Romo told reporters earlier this week he did not feel any unusual discomfort in his back.

"It would be the same if you asked me if there was soreness in my legs," he said. "It's just part of being in camp.
