A video of a Starbucks supervisor shouting at a customer went viral Saturday, and now she has reportedly quit her job, saying that the video only showed one side of the story.
Melissa, the barista who went in rage apparently over a straw, is seen in the video shouting at Ruby Chen, the customer, in a Starbucks Cafe in Queens, New York. Chen can also be seen asking the barista if she was OK and was asking other attendants at the café what was going on with the barista.
As if the tension between Melissa and Chen was not enough, the Melissa lashed out at other customers as well, shouting at them and repeatedly telling them "bye!"
Chen became the target for the frustration of the Starbucks worker after she claimed she did not hear staff asking her for her name to place on her cup. She had ordered a frappuccino and one special straw and was fumbling with her Starbucks app on her mobile phone so she could pay, according to The Mirror.
However, as Chen claims, the barista snatched away the scanner so she could not pay before accusing her of trying to steal the straw.
Melissa shared her version of the incident, saying that it was not the first time she has been disrespected by customers. She added that she had resigned and was not fired.
Starbucks has given the customer a $100 gift card as an apology. a spokesperson of the company said, "The customer's experience is not reflective of the service our baristas provide. The employee was immediately suspended and no longer works for Starbucks. Our leadership team has reached out to the customer to make things right. This experience is not what we want our customers to have in our stores. We worked to quickly resolve this," according to the Mirror.
