What do you do when you run out of land for new cities and towns? Build floating ones, of course!
Firaxis Games is the developer of a number of popular games, including the award-winning "Civilization" series of world-building adventures. For the last ten years, players have fought to take control of Earth and become the world superpower on Earth. The latest entry in the "Civilization" series, titled "Beyond Earth" lets players take their civilizations to the stars. Players were told to build a interplanetary civilization and compete for control with other alien civilizations.
Now, Firaxis will feature a new kind of city in "Beyond Earth's" first expansion; floating. The expansion, titled "Rising Tide," will add a new level of water-based gameplay to the strategy game.
Firaxis designer David McDonough told Mashable that the expansion will change things so that "100 percent of the planet's surface is....playable and valid for settlement." This includes new vehicles, new buildings and a new ecosystem. The update will also modify the rules of the game so that the water-based gameplay correctly interacts with the game's land-based civilization.
"Rising Tide" will also add a new level of diplomacy to "Civilization: Beyond Earth."
"New diplomacy mechanics turns each civilization's leaders into an ever-changing, ever-evolving quantity within the game. Players have the ability to unlock and apply traits that have an impact on the flow of the game while fostering a closer connection with the fictional characters leading each civilization," notes Mashable. This change will let players develop their leaders into their own unique character that plays according to their preferred style of play.
"Rising Tide" will also update the variety of game environments and add new methods of civilization development.
"Civilization Beyond Earth:Rising Tide" will be available in Fall 2015 for $29.99.
