"The Voice" Top 4 entered the first night of the season finale with high hopes and a chance to show a little individuality with an original song.
The four contestants performed three songs each including the original composition, a duet with their coach and a cover performance. Joshua Davis of Team Adam and Meghan Linsey of Team Blake added a little extra effort to their original song by contributing to the writing of the song.
Read below for a full recap of each singer and how they felt about their performances.
Team Pharrell Williams - Koryn Hawthorne
Hawthorne kicked off the night with a cover of "It's a Man's, Man's, Man's Word' by James Brown. Following her powerhouse vocal, Coach Blake cheered, "That performance proves why you should be in the finale."
The 17-year-old singer hooked up with Coach Williams to rework The Beatles classic "We Can Work it Out." Williams also wrote her original song which fell right in her wheelhouse.
"It was a song that I had, but hadn't quite gotten right," Williams told reporters after the show. "I couldn't be with her to give her the song, so I sent it to her with my voice and I was nervous."
Hawthoren added, laughing, "He asked if I liked it. Was that a question? It was amazing."
Team Pharell Willaims - Sawyer Fredericks
Fredericks' voice blended perfectly with Coach Williams as they sang the Seals & Croft hit "Summer Breeze." The younger performer also received a special treat for his original song, having the song penned by his personal idol, Ray LaMontagne.
He closed out the night with his cover of "Old Man" by Neil Young. "The purity and sanctity you have, you should always hold on to," Adam Levine told Fredericks after his performance.
Team Blake - Meghan Linsey
Linsey co-wrote her original song, 'Change My Mind' and performing it was a dream come true for the New Orleans native.
"When I started this I never dreamed I'd be allowed to perform something I wrote, so having the opportunity on this platform was huge. I'm really grateful," Linsey told Headlines & Global News.
Her coach Blake Shelton was even a little jealous of his protégé.
"The song has a great hook. I was like, 'Why didn't I think of that after writing songs for 30 years?" he laughed while talking to reporters. "She sang the crap out of it and it's a great song."
For her duet, Linsey and Shelton tackled Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love." She rocked out to the '80s classic and had to admit the duet was "One of the highlights of the competition."
Linsey also brought down the house down with her cover of "When a Man Loves a Woman" and her coach called it, "The performance of the night."
Team Adam - Joshua Davis
Davis also penned his original song, "The Workingman's Hymn," and the up-tempo song sat well with the coaches. Shelton told Davis afterward, "You are a great songwriter!"
The Michigan native and his coach Adam Levine paired up to sing "Diamonds on the Sole of Her Shoes" by one of their favorite performers, Paul Simon.
"We both love Paul Simon," Levine told HNGN. "We had the time of our lives performing that."
His cover of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen suited his folk-singer personality perfectly and his effortless delivery had the coaches fawning over the performance.
"You were so right on and I was so engaged," Christina Aguilera said.
"The Voice" will crown a winner in the second part of the season finale, which continues tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC. The night will also feature performances by Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson and Megan Trainer.
