Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was involved in a gang-related prison fight on Monday, according to CNN.
The news outlet reports that Hernandez agreed to be a lookout while one inmate went into the cell of another prisoner. The two then had a physical altercation that was believed to be spurred on by gang conflicts while Hernandez waited outside.
The three prisoners are being disciplined, according to CNN's report. Hernandez was put into a special management section at the correctional center for his role in the incident. A spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Correction declined to comment on the matter when asked by CNN.
Last month, Hernandez was convicted of the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. He received a mandatory life sentence without parole. His lawyers have since appealed the decision.
Hernandez is expected back in court again on Thursday for a status hearing in relation to his double-murder trial in Boston. He is accused of shooting two men in 2012 after one caused him to spill a drink at a nightclub.
This is not the first time Hernandez has been involved in a prison altercation.
Back in February 2014, Hernandez allegedly traded insults with an inmate being transported from the infirmary and then punched him, knocking him to the ground. Neither was injured in the matter.
