The Philippines has a rich history mirrored through the lives of the present-day Filipinos, but the influence of the country's history can also be seen in the appearance of the Filipino people.
As a sixth installment of Cut.com's "100 Years of Beauty" series, it released a video featuring the Philippines beauty through the decades.
Background research was conducted by Chris Santo Domingo Chan, a Ph.D. student in anthropology at the University of Washington, to come up with the different looks of a Filipina through time.
At the beginning of the video, you will see the Spanish-American War and an indigenous look of a woman with tribal tattoos in 1910.
As the video progresses, other influences like American jazz in the 1930s and the Mestiza (half-Filipina, half-Caucasian) in the 1950s are seen. Meanwhile, in the 1960s, Imelda Marcos made waves in style.
In the 2000s, Korean pop and United States culture has a strong influence on the hair and makeup styles.
The model in the video is April Villanueva, a former Filipino pop star, according to Yahoo News. Makeup was done by Katya Gudaeva and hair by Juel Bergholm.
