Maggie Gyllenhaal: Actress Told She Was ‘Too Old’ At 37 To Play A 55-Year-Old Man’s Lover

As Amy Schumer would say, Maggie Gyllenhaal has enjoyed her "Last F***able Day."

A Hollywood producer recently told Gyllenhaal that she was "too old" to play the love interest of a 55-year-old man. The actress did not divulge the name of the movie.

"There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time," the Golden Globe-winning actress told The Wrap. "I'm 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh."

Hollywood has recently come under fire for its lack of female roles in movies and the ACLU is demanding that state and federal agencies investigate Hollywood studios, networks and talent agencies to reveal the discrepancies.

A recent study by the San Diego State University's Center for the Study of Women in Television in Film also found that female characters only made up 12 percent of protagonists in the top 100 domestic-grossing films of 2014, according to The Wrap.

Gyllenhaal won a Golden Globe for her latest work in the Sundance Channel miniseries, "The Honourable Woman," which will likely garner her an Emmy nomination this fall.
