You know what a "staycation" is and you may have already enjoyed these from time to time, but would you be interested in going on a "nacation" or a naked vacation? Apparently, a lot of travelers already are!
People go on a vacation to escape the stress of daily routines and to recharge themselves from burnout. But others stretch the escape further by opting to book at nudist resorts, enjoying their vacation without any clothing on, according to Ken 5 Eyewitness News.
Nude travel is not a new concept. Nudist colonies have been in existence for decades, but the latest from the travel industry indicate that this is now a growing niche, one that is reaping about $400 million in yearly profits, according to USA Today.
Alan Martin, who runs Rennert Travel, has received a good amount of inquiries for nude vacation bookings even back in the '90s, but he says that trend has changed of late.
"Now lately you are getting more groups. Some families, but mostly more groups who are coming in and want to travel together, like 10, 20 or 30 people," Martin told Ken 5. He also says that people going on nacations are even more eager today.
"As soon as they get on the plane they disrobe and that starts the whole experience," he notes.
"Shame is something that must be learned; we're not born with it," said Stuart Antrim, who works at the Serendipity Nudist Park in Georgia. "Once you get past 30 seconds of awkwardness, they realized that learned shame melts away," he added, according to USA Today.
Elma Placeres Dieppa from VacationExpress.com has also confirmed that there are more and more resorts that have a "clothing optional" policy.
"15 years ago we had probably two resorts and now we have six," Placeres Dieppa said. Guests can either choose to go topless and keep their bottoms on, or go daring by baring everything. In some cases, it also depends on the resort.
The average rate for a four-night, five-day nacation is around $1,500 per person and the cost already includes the airfare. One big plus to this is that travelers do carry light baggage and save on baggage fees. After all, they won't need any clothing where they are going!
