A man who was reportedly irritated that his love interest's daughter took up too much of her time allegedly posted an ad on Craigslist offering to sell the baby for the cheap price of $100, according to CBS News.
Paul Marquez, 22, posted the ad on the Craigslist for Staten Island, N.Y., in the "Baby+Kids" section of the website. Marquez posted the ad twice, it was flagged and taken down the first time, that had pictures of the baby and listed the mother's phone number as the contact information, according to the Staten Island Advance.
Marquez has been charged with misdemeanors of authority to place or board out children, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail according to CBS News.
Worried individuals who saw the ad on the website made calls to the New York Police Department which prompted the Computer Crimes Squad to take the case. Eventually the ad was tracked back to Marquez and he was arrested, according to the Staten Island Advance.
"Heyy I have a 2 month old baby name [redacted] she loves to play nd have her little fun but there is only 1 problem, the doctor said that she has asthma nd if she turns a certain way she can stop breathing, she's really getting on my nerves nd I don't want her Please email me (sic)," Marquez wrote in the ad.
Marquez had met the 19-year-old mother of the baby online and that they had gone out a couple of times. Marquez told police that he had no intentions of actually selling the infant and that the ad was placed to "get back" at the woman, according to ABC News.
"The reason why I decided to put this post (up) was because I got bored and wanted to get a little laugh and a little kick out of it," Marquez said, according to the Staten Island Advance.
The mother told detectives that she received at least one phone call by someone hoping to purchase the baby; police are working to find out the identity of the caller, according to the Staten Island Advance.
