Millions of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis, and a new study has found that drinking two cups of coffee a day could provide tremendous perks in the bedroom, The Telegraph reported.
The study, conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, discovered that men who drink two cups of coffee a day had a lower risk of erectile dysfunction than non-drinkers. The effect remained true irrespective of weight or blood pressure, the study found. The only exception being men with diabetes; extra caffeine intake did not lower their chances of impotence, the researchers said.
"Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of erectile dysfunction with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for erectile dysfunction, so this was not surprising," Prof. David Lopez, of the University of Texas, Houston, said in a news release.
Lopez, along with his team, looked at data of more than 3,700 men obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The men answered questionnaires asking them to recall their caffeine intake from the prior 24 hours. The amount of caffeine that appeared to reduce the risk of impotence was equal to two to three cups of coffee each day, the researchers said. The researchers feel caffeine sets off a series of pharmacological effects that increase the flow of blood to the male reproductive organ by relaxing the arteries and muscles, according to Men's Fitness.
