Survey: Most Moviegoers Willing to Pay $10-20 To Watch New Movies at Home

As the summer movie season begins, so do the box office results. While the box office income hasn't gone down, the box office prices have, causing millions to complain about increasing prices.

But what if studios offered an opportunity to watch a new film at home? How much would users pay for that? That's the idea behind PricewaterhouseCooper's recent Consumer Intelligence Series survey titled ""Summer 2014 Movie Going Declines a Blip on the Radar?"

The study took a look at why 2014's box office was significantly lower than past years and whether that will affect the 2015 summer box office. Along they way, the study discovered a number of very interesting factors.

First, the study found that 53 percent of survey attendees said that one of the reasons they were going to the theatres less was the rising ticket prices. Only 41 percent said that it was because of movie selection, 30 percent said it was because their desire to watch a film on their schedule, and 29 percent said that it was because there were better recreational options available to them.

According to the participants, the main factor that determined if a person was interested in a film was the genre. 64 percent of survey takers said that they wanted to see an action movie, followed by the 56 percent who wanted to see a comedy.

While many of the survey takers said that they enjoyed going to the theatre, an overwhelming majority expressed an interest in options for watching films at home. "The vast majority of adults (87 percent) would be interested in a subscription plan that would let them watch an unlimited number of films for $20 a month.," The Wrap reported, "Adults ages 35-59 years old are interested but want to learn more about it before they commit, as are infrequent and occasional movie goers. Younger adults and frequent moviegoers are very committed to this idea, since they'd likely benefit the most."

The end results of PwC's study were fairly positive for 2015's box office. In fact, the network believes that the 2015 summer box office will make substantially more than past summers.
