China Flooding Death Toll Rises to 52, Includes 2 Kids on Overloaded Bus

The death toll in the recent flooding in China has reached to 52, including two schoolchildren aboard an overloaded bus.

Six people are missing in floods that took place in mountain districts of six provinces and autonomous regions in central and southeastern China, according to the Associated Press.

Forty-two others have died due to floods and heavy rains, 16 of which were killed in the collapse of a nine-story building in the Guiyang after a landslide. Eight other people also died in the central province of Hunan after a bus glided into a guardrail and overturned.

Apart from the two kids killed in the school bus accident, 21 other kindergarten students were sent to the hospital. Three students are in serious condition. Only 11 people were licensed to be carried by the bus, which had a total of 26 on board. The Guangxi regional government said the driver, teachers and school administrators have been taken into custody, the Daily Mail reported.

Seasonal heavy rains cause major flooding in China almost every year, the worst of which was recorded in 1998 with 4,150 deaths, most of them along the Yangtze River.

Other results of the flooding include more than a quarter-million people being moved to temporary shelters, and a great deal of damage to buildings and crops, Yahoo! News reported.
