A husband and wife, missing for two weeks, were found on Sunday in a remote area of San Diego County, Calif. The husband was found dead, while the wife was found in a significantly dehydrated state, after she survived on rainwater and minimal food, according to the authorities.
Cecil Knutson and Dianna Bedwell, aged 79 and 68, respectively, were found not far from a Boy Scout camp on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation located near Warner Springs, said Sheriff Lt. Ken Nelson, according to the Los Angeles Times. Knutson's body was discovered next to a white car while Bedwell was found inside the car, he added.
The couple's last known location was at a casino in northern San Diego County, 25 miles west of the woods where they were found. Officials stated that the pair had made plans to go to their son's house in Palm Springs for Mother's Day but they did not turn up there or to their home in Orange County.
They were last seen leaving the Valley View Casino in Valley Center, about 25 miles west of the wilderness camp, on May 10. Authorities said the two were planning on going to their son's home in the Palm Springs area for a Mother's Day dinner but they didn't show up there or return to their home in Orange County, according to ABC News.
Dianna Bedwell, found in a critical condition, was airlifted to a nearby hospital. She told investigators that she and her husband were trying to take a shortcut to their son's house but they got lost and their car broke down. The couple had to survive on rainwater and some snacks they had in the car, she said.
