A body found floating in the Hudson River Saturday was identified on Sunday as Vincent Viafore - the missing kayaker allegedly murdered by his fiancée, according to the New York Post.
Forensic experts said that the recovered body was apparently wearing the same clothes Viafore wore on the day of his death, according to NY Daily News.
Vincent Viafore disappeared on April 19 after his kayak capsized about 50 miles north of New York City during a boating trip with his fiancée, Angelika Graswald. Viafore's body was found approximately 20 miles from where his kayak capsized.
Graswald currently faces second-degree murder charges after allegedly confessing to tampering with Viafore's kayak and making incriminating statements. She stood to gain $250,000 from his life insurance policy.
Assistant District Attorney Julie Mohl said Graswald knew she was the beneficiary of Viafore's two life insurance policies, and "talked about what she could do with the money" after Viafore's death, according to Fox News.
"She stated she tampered with the victim's kayak. She knew it would contribute to his death," Mohl further recounted of Graswald's alleged confession. Furthermore, Graswald allegedly told authorities that she felt "happiness and relief" as she watched Viafore go into the water, and that "it felt good knowing he was going to die," Mohl said.
In Graswald's bail hearing, prosecutors said that Viafore had held onto his boat for 5 to 10 minutes, but Graswald called 911 about 20 minutes after his boat capsized.
Graswald is being held on a $3 million bail.
