Google I/O 2015: What To Expect At This Week's Conference

Google and Android fans will have their eyes fixed on the Google I/O developers conference this week. This conference will be the central hub for a number of technological developments, including OS updates and wearables. But what do we expect Google to premiere at I/O this year? Here are our predictions:

  • Android Update (known as Android M): Just as Google introduced Android's latest update (known as Lollipop) at Google I/O 2014, we believe that Google will premiere a major software upgrade in the next few days. Developers will get their hands on an early version of the new update, codenamed Android M, at the conference. This update will include a number of features, including (but not limited to) biometric scanner support, a multi-window interface and a new location known as Nearby.
  • Android Pay: Many analysts believe that Google will reveal details about Google's Apple Pay competitor at I/O 2015. Google confirmed the service's existence a while ago, but we don't have any details about the service or how it works. We hope that Google will give us more details about Android Pay.
  • Android Wear for iOS: Last April, The Verge discovered that Google was very close to developing an iOS app that will let iPhone users connect to an Android Wear device. It would make sense, then, that Google would reveal details about such an app at I/O.
  • New Google Glass: While Google did cancel Project Glass, Google representatives have said that Google isn't done designing wearables. Many expect Google to share details about its new wearable during the conference.
  • New Chromecast: Google released its infamous video dongle more than two years ago. Seems like the perfect time to release the sequel, right? While it's unclear whether Google will release Chromecast 2.0, early reports revealed that Google will release a software update for Chromecast during I/O 2015.

Google I/O 2015 begins on May 28 and will go through May 29.
