Bristol Palin Leaves Kentucky on What Would Have Been Her Wedding Day

Why get married when you can go camping?

Last week, Sarah Palin took to Facebook to reveal that her 24-year-old daughter Bristol Palin would not be walking down the aisle with U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer over Memorial Day weekend. Instead of watcing her daughter swap vows on Saturday, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate invited friends and family to a barbecue on the family's farm.

But there was one important person missing from Sarah's Memorial Day barbecue - Bristol. Maybe it's because she was back home in Alaska while the festivals were back at the would-be groom's Kentucky farm.

So what did the single mom do on her wedding day?

The "Dancing With the Stars" season 11 contestant posted a sweet Instagram photo of her son Tripp on Saturday riding his bike behind a small dog on her would-be wedding day. Bristol captioned the Instagram photo, writing, "So blessed."

Bristol also posted photos of herself behind the wheel of an RV and posing with a group of friends. Her recent post included a photo that read, "HARD TIMES WILL ALWAYS REVEAL YOUR TRUE FRIENDS."

News of Bristol's ended engagement become public after rumors surfaced that Meyer, a Medal of Honor recipient, was still married to his secret wife named Cassandra Marie Wain. Meyer reportedly got married at 19 years old and allegedly divorced in 2010.

Sarah's Facebook post on Monday included a statement from Bristol, 24, addressing the rumors.

"Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives', Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you! - Bristol"

Meyer proposed to Bristol in March at a Rascal Flatts concert. At the time, Meyer posted a sweet picture of himself and Bristol to Instagram, writing, "I'm definitely the luckiest guy ever to be able to spend the rest of my life with @bsmp2 #shesaidyes"
