The New York Yankees face the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday in what could be one of Alex Rodriguez's last games. The game starts at 8:10 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream or listen to the audio HERE.
Monday was an eventful day for Rodriguez. Hours before the slugger was scheduled to play for the first time this season, the MLB handed down a 211-game suspension for the slugger's alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
It was an ugly game for the Yankees, who lost 8-1 to the White Sox. Rodriguez didn't have a triumphant return, either. Greeted to a chorus of boos, Rodriguez went 1-for-4, the Associated Press reports. His lone hit, a single, was all Rodriguez had to show after his return.
Despite the less-than-storybook return to the diamond, Rodriguez is anxious to get back to baseball.
"We're just getting started in this process (of appealing the suspension)," Rodriguez told AP reporters. "But for me, personally, I just want to get back to baseball, playing hard and playing with a lot of intensity. I just want to see what our team has to offer.
"My focus is: What can I do to help this team win?"
For all the media attention Rodriguez is receiving, Yankees manager Joe Girardi doesn't foresee sitting him.
"He's here, he's going to play," Girardi told the team website, via AP. "It really doesn't change anything for us."
New York's ugly performance wasn't helped by pitcher Andy Pettitte, who allowed seven runs and 11 hits in 2 2-3 innings. Monday's loss dropped the Yankees to 57-54 and marked the team's 12th loss in 18 games.
Hiroki Kuroda (10-6, 2.38 ERA) is slated to pitch on Tuesday for New York. He's given up just two runs over 33 innings while going 3-0 in his last five starts.
Chris Sale (6-11, 2.92) will pitch for Chicago as he tries to avoid four straight losing starts. His last start against Cleveland on Thursday saw the lefthander give up five runs and 10 hits in five innings.
