Cookie Monster 'I Love It': Sesame Street Parody of Icona Pop's Hit Song 'Me Want It (But Me Wait)' Teaches Kids About Self Control (WATCH)

Cookie Monster's new parody of Icona Pop's "I Love It" titled "Me Want It (But Me Wait)" is the best thing to happen to "Sesame Street" since Katy Perry and Elmo's "Hot and Cold" cover.

"Me Want It (But Me Wait)" features Cookie Monster love of the delicious baked treats (COOKIES OBVIOUSLY), but no matter how much he wants to indulge, he practices self control.

According to the Huffington Post, "Sesame Street" used Cookie Monster to teach children about "restraint and eating in moderation," in response to the growing childhood obesity rates. The Icona Pop cover is another way "Seasame Street" can teach kids healthy eating habits.

It's not the first time the children's television show has covered famous songs, but they response hasn't always been as positive.

Back in 2010, Katy Perry guest-starred alongside Elmo in a parody of one of the singer's big hit "Hot and Cold." The song was fun and catchy, but parents were outraged of the outfit choice for Miss Perry.

The songstress wore a green dress with a flesh-colored, mesh neckline. On screen, it looks like you can see Perry's cleavage, and parents flooded "Sesame Street" with angry letters.

Some defended Perry and the show's choice to film the short, but a Sesame Street spokesperson released a statement to UsMagazine.com siding with the angry viewers:

"Sesame Street has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists. Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer's opinions and particularly those of parents. In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on You Tube."
