Virgin Airlines Will Begin Offering Live In-Flight Entertainment

Virgin Airlines will start including live comedy and music on board their flights from Heathrow to Manchester and Edinburgh, The Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday.

Little Red flights, Virgin's recently created domestic flight service, will be the only planes offering live entertainment.

Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, said he wanted to "shake up domestic flying in the UK" with a new entertainment program.

The live comedy acts will serve as routine practice for comedians travelling to Edinburgh's Fringe Festival, the world's largest art festival. By September, the airline hopes to include live music with the intent to honor the "rich music scenes in Scotland and Manchester."

Virgin plans to reveal scheduled acts through their social media accounts but will not provide specifics in order to provide a "truly one of a kind experience" for patrons.

This comes in addition to positive news after Virgin America recently recorded it's first Q2 profit of $8.8 million in 2013 after suffering a $31.8 million loss in 2012, according to Skift.

The occupancy levels in flights rose to 83.7 percent while fuel prices declined by 8 percent per gallon. Revenue rose 8 percent to $376.1 million and Virgin anticipates continued financial improvements through the rest of the year.

Airlines around the world have been making headlines recently for updating their flights services. Just two days ago, American airline Jet Blue announced they would be incorporating a first-class section with lie-flat seats and private suites on selective routes.

Jet Blue fliers will be able to adjust the firmness of the seats, which also include a massage function, and a 15-inch wide-screen television at their service. There will also be a "wake-me-for-service" button in case patrons decide to sleep.

In addition, United Airlines amped their amount of flights per day between San Francisco and Newark from nine to 15. Virgin America recently added a San Francisco to New York route.
