56-Year-Old Connected to Los Angeles Apartment Arson Fire Arrested

Los Angeles police have arrested a 56-year-old man connected to a massive fire late last year that destroyed a downtown apartment complex that was under construction.

Dawud Abdulwali was arrested on arson charges in connection to the fire, which also destroyed three buildings close by, Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department said, according to Reuters.

Abdulwali is being held on more than $1 million bail, with an initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday morning.

The burned site covers an entire city block of the seven-story Da Vinci complex located near the Hollywood Freeway and the Harbor Freeway, according to Yahoo! News.

The fire also ignited three floors of a neighboring 16-story high-rise building and resulted in the windows of two other buildings blowing out, one of which is the Department of Water and Power headquarters.

The building that burned was supposed to be a latest faux-Italian-style luxury apartment complex developed by G.H. Palmer Associates in downtown Los Angeles.
