Warning: Possible Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" offers a lot of possibilities for its new slate of main characters. John Boyega's Finn, for example, could go in a lot of different directions. We know that he starts the movie as a stormtrooper but soon defects because of a traumatic event. After that is where things get a bit hazy.
Finn has been pictured with a lightsaber on his person in certain concept art for the film. Rumors suggest that Lupita Nyong'o's character Maz intends for the lightsaber to end up with Daisy Ridley's Rey (who may or may not be related to the Solos or Skywalkers) but instead it lands with Finn, at least for a time. Fans have long been wondering if this will be a significant development for Finn's character or just a simple plot occurrence. But Making Star Wars reports that this may lead Finn down the path to becoming a Jedi.
"When Finn gets the laser sword, he doesn't just tie it to his jacket and look cool," Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward writes. "Once the saber is his, he uses it. Apparently when Finn activates the saber to fight Kylo [Ren] at the end of the film, it isn't the first time he's used it...
"Is Finn sensitive to the Force? We don't know. I get the sense that we are going to see anyone can become a Jedi in the Star Wars universe and tap into the mysterious Force as George Lucas says they can but only the Jedi have the time to develop the skills...I bet Finn takes that Jedi road but we won't know he's taken it in Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Ward suggests that Finn will train with Maz in between "Episode VII" and "Episode VIII," much like Luke Skywalker completed his training with Yoda in between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."
Remember, this is all unconfirmed at this point. But if true, it sounds as if Finn will be following in Luke's footsteps while Rey and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron fill the Han Solo and Princess Leia roles.
