After years of requests, Facebook has finally added the ability to post animated GIFs onto its website.
The social networking giant has allowed users to post a variety of files to their service for years, including jpegs, movs and GIFs. However, the Facebook website would not play animated gifs on the website. It's unclear whether Facebook intentionally designed the website to not play animated gifs, or if it was an unintentional consequence of the way the website was coded.
But regardless of the reason, Facebook has fixed this glitch. The Next Web discovered on Friday that Facebook had added animated GIF compatibility to the website. "All you need to do to embed your favorite GIF is drop in a link in your status to a GIF hosted on any site, like Tumblr or Imgur, and it'll play inline," The Nex Web reported. "Easy! Note that images uploaded directly to Facebook don't work."
Animated GIFs currently only work on the desktop version of the site and cannot be viewed on mobile devices. However, this small update will provide millions of users with a new way to interact and engage with one another.
So go ahead and post that annoying GIF on your friend's Facebook profile. You know you want to!
