Anheuser-Busch Plant Halts Beer Production To Produce Cans Of Water For Texas Flood Victims

Large sections of Texas are currently flooded, leaving thousands without a home. Emergency response teams are doing what they can to help the victims, but there are still a lot of unfulfilled needs.

One important need is clean water. It's hard to find a source for clean water during a flood. That's why bottled water is so important in these situations.

One company is using unconventional tactics to provide clean water. An Anheuser-Busch plant in Cartersville, Ga., has stopped making beer and is canning water for Texas flood victims.

"Right now our production line is running emergency drinking water instead of beer," Cartersville brewery manager Rob Haas told NBC News. The plant hopes to create more than 50,000 cans of fresh water in the upcoming weeks.

This isn't the first time that the Cartersville plant has created cans of emergency water. The plant tends to produce the cans of water a few times a year for disaster victims in America. "It's something we're uniquely positioned to do in a very timely period," Haas said.

The plant recently finished making 2,000 cases of canned water with 24 cans inside each, Haas said. This collection of cans should reach Oklahoma and Texas some time in the near future.

American Red Cross spokesman Jordan Scott said that Anheuser-Busch is one of its disaster partners and that the Red Cross is working with the beverage company to determine which areas are in critical need of Anheuser-Busch's water supply.

Anheuser-Busch has 12 breweries in the United States, where the beverage company makes a number of popular beers, including Budweiser and Michelob Ultra.
