Couple Gives Birth To 12th Boy: 'We Gave Up A Long Time Ago On A Little Girl Showing Up in This Family'

A Michigan couple has welcomed their 12th child who also happens to be their 12th boy, KPLR reported.

Kateri and Jay Schwandt of Rockford, Michigan introduced baby Tucker Ray on Aug. 4 after trying for a daughter. The proud parents told Matt Lauer of "The Today Show" that they still feel lucky and blessed to have given birth to a healthy baby boy.

"We are confident that he's going to fit right in and we gave up a long time ago on a little girl showing up in this family," Kateri, who goes by Teri, jokingly said to Matt Lauer. "We didn't know what he would be when he was first born. We don't find out. It's always a boy, but it's always a surprise."

Tucker is joined by the rest of the family: Tyler, 21; Zack, 17; Drew, 16; Brandon, 14; Tommy, 11; Vinny, 10; Calvin, 8; Gabe, 6; Wesley, 5; Charlie, 3; and Luke, 19 months.

Teri told "The Today Show" that she is one of 14 in her family and noted one of her sister's has 10 sons.

According to KPLR, Jay claims he isn't opposed to having more children and said its a religious preference.

Teri and Jay have been married since they were 18. While they were both attending Ferris State University, Teri became pregnant and gave birth to their first son, Tyler. Teri eventually received her masters in social work and Jay received his law degree from the Cooley Law School.

For the past 20 years, the Schwandt family have added a new addition almost every other year. Some have compared the Schwandt bunch to the Duggar family, famous for their reality television show that features their 19 children - so far - and grandchildren.
