Andy Murray meets Ernests Gulbis on Thursday in the third round of the 2013 Rogers Cup. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE.
After a first-round bye, Murray began the Rogers Cup against Marcel Granollers. The 2013 Wimbledon champion defeated the Spaniard in two sets (6-4, 7-6). World No. 2 Murray has played well this season, posting a 34-5 record and winning four titles.
Gulbis, ranked No. 38 in the World, is 26-12 this year and made it to the third round of 2013 Wimbledon. He has one title, the Delray Beach ATP tournament, to his name this season.
Gulbis defeated Feliciano Lopez in two sets (7-6, 6-4) in the opening round of the Rogers Cup, and he followed it with a three-set win over Fabio Fognini (6-3, 1-6, 6-1).
The 24-year-old from Latvia made headlines in May when he called the world's top four tennis players - Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Murray - "boring players," according to BBC.
Murray dismissed Gulbis' comment and characterized their relationship as fine, but the Scot isn't taking his opponent lightly.
"He's a big server," Murray told BBC. "He likes to go for his shots, plays very aggressive and can be unpredictable on the court. He will use some drop-shots and come to the net a little bit but he can also make quite a few errors as well so it's tough to get into a rhythm against him.
"But I'll just try and play a good match tomorrow and hopefully it's a win for me."
TennGrand.com described the two's history against each other:
"Murray and Gulbis will be squaring off for the sixth time in their careers when they clash in round three of the Rogers Cup on Thursday. All five of their previous encounters have gone Murray's way. The Scot has defeated Gulbis twice on outdoor hard courts in what are their two most recent meetings heading into Montreal. Murray won 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 at the 2009 U.S. Open and he survived in a third-set tiebreaker at the 2010 Cincinnati Masters."
