NHL NEWS: Tampa Bay Lightning Defeat New York Rangers, Advance To Stanley Cup Finals

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist again made a number of spectacular saves, but it wasn't enough to stave off Jon Cooper, Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning defeated the Rangers 2-0 Friday night, advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals and ending another promising New York season.

An unassuming carry into the New York defensive zone early in the third period brought the game's first goal for Tampa Bay's Alex Killorn, the puck trickling gently between the wickets of the otherwise spectacular Lundqvist.

Ondrej Palat added a second goal for Tampa, beating Lundqvist over his left shoulder with just under nine minutes to go in Game 7 and it was nothing but post-whistle fights and Doc Emeric screeches from there.

Prior to the loss, the Rangers had been 7-0 all-time in Game 7s at Madison Square Garden.

With the victory, the Lightning are now set to face off with the winner of the Western Conference Finals, either the Chicago Blackhawks or the Anaheim Ducks, in the Stanley Cup Finals, which will begin June 3.
