Uber, an app-based service for getting rides around town, has released mockups for its future headquarters to be built on its Mission Bay campus.
The construction is targeted to start in the fall, and the building is expected to be ready for use by late 2017 or early 2018. The building is designed to accommodate for more than 3,000 workers.
Uber currently operates in more than 200 cities in 55 countries. The 423,000 square-foot, two-building complex, which will include an 11-story mid-rise at 1455 Third St., and the six-story structure at 1515 Third St. will be the company's rite of passage into letting the unofficial capital of America's tech industry know that it is a growing business like the rest in the area, San Francisco Gate News reported.
The transportation company handpicked architecture studio SHoP and interior design firm Studio O+A to design the huge structure, and the two companies have unveiled plans for a glassy new mini-campus for Uber, Dezeen reported.
Three slanted bridges, which are almost completely covered in glass, are used to connect the two buildings, which look like glass warehouses from the outside, according to The Verge. People outside can also see almost everything inside the buildings if it weren't for steel beams outlining their edges.
Shops will also be made available in the ground floors of both buildings to maintain a vibrant feel for the buildings.
