Tim Tebow News: Quarterback's Status For First Preseason Game Still Unknown; 'Be Ready When Your Number is Called'

No one seems to have any idea if the New England Patriots will use Tim Tebow in their first preseason game Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Not even Tim Tebow, according to the Boston Globe.

The former Florida Gator said he got a simple message from Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, “Just be ready when your number is called."

Tebow signed with the Patriots back in June, receiving a deal that includes the base salary with the chance to make up to $2 million. He was released by the New York Jets in April.

Despite the 25-year old quarterback’s uncertain role with the Patriots, he feels he has improved since training camp began.

“I feel like I’m getting better every single day,” said Tebow, who is known for his struggles with throwing the ball. “More comfortable with the offense, better timing with everybody around me, better understanding of what the coaches want me to do and with the offense, with the reads, with the timing.”

“So it’s just every day trying to get a little bit better, and it sounds cliché but it’s true," he added. "That’s really what I’m focused on, and I know it’s something that hopefully I’ve been able to accomplish.”

Tebow added his relationship with former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels—who is the Patriots current offensive coordinator—has helped the experience on his new team.

“It’s been great,” Tebow said. “We’ve had a great relationship, and being back with him, he’s so smart with the game – coaching quarterbacks, coaching offense. And just being around him and talking ball is a lot of fun.”

In addition to Tebow’s playing time, Belichick has not said anything about the playing time star quarterback Tom Brady will receive in the first game. The only thing known about the Patriots quarterback situation for their preseason opener is that Brady’s backup, Ryan Mallett, is expected to get a good amount of playing time Friday night.

The Patriots will be at Lincoln Financial Field to play the Eagles at 7:30 EDT.
