Betsy Palmer, the actress who received great recognition as the murderous cook Mrs. Voorhees in the horror film "Friday the 13th," has died at age 88.
Palmer died of natural causes at a hospice care center in Connecticut on Friday, her longtime manager Brad Lemack told The Associated Press on Sunday.
The actress has made various appearances in television, Broadway and film before she gained wider recognition by playing Mrs. Voorhees in the 1980 horror film "Friday the 13th," which is about young counselors slowly being killed in camp.
The character is the mother of Jason Voorhees, who died at camp a few years before. Jason would eventually come to life in succeeding sequels of which Palmer continued to pass on. She admitted in a later interview that the reason why she took on the role is because she could buy herself a new car.
Palmer has starred in other films namely "Mr. Roberts" with Henry Fonda, "The Long Gray Line" with Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara, "Queen Bee" with Joan Crawford, and "The Tin Star" with Fonda and Anthony Perkins.
Palmer is survived by her daughter Melissa Merendino, according to a report from The Huffington Post.
