New York Prison Break: Police Dogs Pick Up Escapees' Scents A Mile Away

Sniffing police dogs have picked up the scents of prisoners Richard Matt and David Sweat, who escaped from a New York prison over the weekend.

Investigators are currently looking at surveillance videos from a gas station located a mile away from the prison they escaped from, Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie said, in an interview with CNN, Thursday night.

The dogs followed the scent of the escapees, leading them east to the town of Cadyville, said Wylie. He added that the dogs still had their scent Thursday evening, and that they were heading their way to the perimeter.

"If this is an actual, true lead that the dogs are following on, we hope to be successful in the next 24 hours," said Wylie.

The residents in the town were advised to stay indoors and keep all their doors locked, while the search for the prisoners is still ongoing. Some schools have also been closed.

About 50 digital billboards, featuring photos of the fugitives, have been put up in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania as part of the effort to find the escapees, reported WRGB CBS 6.
