Tufts University Stabbing: Two Men Injured at Fraternity House

Two young men were stabbed at a fraternity house at Boston's Tufts University on Sunday. The university issued a shelter-in-place order after the incident, which left one of the men critically injured, allowing police authorities to search the campus, according to The Huffington Post.

The police have identified and taken a person of interest into custody, said Somerville Deputy Chief, Paul Trant in a statement to the media. Trant believes that the stabbing was not a random act and the individuals involved in the incident apparently know each other, The Guardian reports.

Authorities arrived at the scene of the crime at approximately 4 a.m. when they found the two injured men outside. The victims seemed to have been stabbed inside the frat house, said Trant. The Delta Tau Delta house is located on Professors Row, a street that passes through Somerville and Medford on the campus just north of Boston.

Somerville police Chief David R. Fallon said both victims have no connections to the university. One victim, a 19 year old who was stabbed in the neck, was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and was discharged shortly thereafter. The seriously injured victim, a 20 year old, underwent surgery and remains at MSH, according to the Boston Herald.

Jim Russell, the national executive vice president of the fraternity, said they were working in conjunction with the local chapter, as well as its alumni advisers, to determine the circumstances of the incident and were also cooperating with police. He added that not many people were living at the house, as students are away for the summer break.
