Elizabeth Smart, the woman who was kidnapped from her Utah home as a teen and held captive for several months before becoming a high profile missing children activist, gave birth to her first child in February.
Smart's father, Ed Smart, confirmed the birth of his new grandchild three months after welcoming baby Chloe into the world.
Mr. Smart told the Salt Lake Tribune that the media just learning about the birth of Chloe three months after her birth is "just what Elizabeth wanted."
"It is totally private," Mr. Smart told the newspaper. "This is something she is keeping to herself and not trying to have out there."
Speaking to Fox 8, Mr. Smart added, "Elizabeth is great. She just had a baby girl named Chloe about three months ago. We want all of those people that have been victimized out there to be survivors. We want them to find their dreams and find that new hope in life that helps them become the best and the most they can be."
Smart had the baby with her husband, Matthew Gilmour, a Scottish man she met while on a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mission, who she married in 2012 - nearly 10 years after she was rescued.
Mr. Smart refused to divulge any other information about his new grandchild in respect for his daughter's privacy.
