As Brian Williams continues to serve his six month suspension, NBC is trying to keep the former "Nightly News" anchor with the network but in a different role.
NBC has presented a number of possibilities to Williams during their weeks of negotiations, according to CNN Money. Most if not all end with him relinquishing his position behind the anchor desk which he has held since 2004.
NBC News Chairman Andy Lack is championing the move that keeps the 56-year-old anchorman at the network. Lack has asked employees to "think creatively" about a new role for Williams.
"Andy's contorting to figure out a way to keep Brian," a source told CNN Money.
NBC News suspended Williams without pay for six months on Feb. 10 for misrepresenting events about his time covering the Iraq War in 2003. The network launched an internal investigation into all of the news man's reporting including some questionable claims he made while covering Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Other scenarios upon Williams return include filing news reports and trying to regain his audience's trust, while still earning much of the $10 million for five years contract he signed in late 2014. NBC also may offer him a financial settlement to leave the network entirely.
Williams has been instructed not to speak publicly since his suspension began. Lester Holt has filled in as the anchor for "NBC Nightly News" admirably and will retain the position for the near future, according to CNN Money.
