Due to the allegations and charges that emerged against former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, his name was removed from a building titled in his honor at Wheaton College.
Hastert was recently indicted for concealing information from the FBI, including withdrawing $3.5 million from banks as an alleged agreement to pay a former student to keep quiet about allegations of sexual abuse, CNN reported.
He reportedly resigned from the board of the J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy at the religious college last week.
"The College respects Mr. Hastert's distinguished public service record and the due process being afforded him pursuant to the charges that have been filed against him," the institution said in a statement.
According to ABC News, the college has renamed the center as the Wheaton College Center for Economics, Government, and Public Policy.
"The Wheaton College serves Jesus Christ and advances His Kingdom through excellence in liberal arts and graduate programs that educate the whole person to build the church and benefit society worldwide. The College has not been implicated in or associated with any of the allegations in this matter," an updated statement read, according to Politico.
The statement also said: "We commit ourselves to pray for all involved, including Speaker Hastert, his family, and those who may have been harmed by any inappropriate behavior."
