A hardline Pakistani senator on Monday announced an award of Rs 1 billion - $16 million- for anyone who arrests Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chief of hardline Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq said that India failed to arrest Jihadi leader Syed Salahuddin despite keeping a reward on his arrest, the Dawn newspaper reported. There was no reaction from the Indian government on Sirajul's bounty announcement.
"I want to say to Modi that you and your agents cannot arrest Salahuddin. And you (Modi) say whoever will arrest Salahuddin, we will give him Rs 500 million. I too say that whoever arrests Modi, we will give him Rs1 billion," he declared in a public meeting. He reportedly made the speech while addressing a gathering of his party supporters in Pakistan- administered Kashmir, The Nation reported.
The remarks from the JI leader came after India asked the United Nations to declare Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist. However, China opposed the move in the UN Security Council, NewsX news channel reported.
The Pakistani senator further said that India could never be Pakistan's friend and anyone in Pakistan who wanted to be friends with India "can go to Mumbai. "Our agenda for friendship with India is Kashmir's independence," he said, according to Pakistan Today.
Sirajul Haq, known for his anti-India stand and radical Islamic remarks, also held Modi responsible for killing hundreds of people in Jammu and Kashir and Gujarat provinces in India. He also criticized Pakistan leadership, calling the present government inefficient. "Either our leaders are blind, deaf and dumb or in collusion with India," he said, according to Pak Observer.
Haq was a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and was recently elected senator. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) believes in the establishment of Sharia (Islamic) Law and openly supported several Jihadist outfits in Pakistan.
