After several brushes with the law, Nicholas Brendon is getting help. The 44-year-old actor, best known for playing Xander on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is in rehab for depression, alcoholism, and substance abuse.
A Facebook post written by his manager, Andrea Albin, explained that the actor is being treated at a facility in California and is "taking the steps necessary to better his health and give himself, and his fans, the gift of a healthy lifestyle."
Albin suggested that the actor has been trying various treatment options since his October 2014 arrest and, after failing to retrieve results with therapy and outpatient services, Brendon decided to try rehab.
"He has been aware of his problems for some time and with each new challenge, he gained a greater understanding of what needed to be done to overcome these obstacles and move forward with his life," the post read. "Since his arrest last October, Nicky had tried several treatment methods- from therapy, to outpatient services- only to realize recently that he needed to take an extended break and treat the underlying issues of his illnesses."
Brendon has been arrested three times this year on charges of public intoxication, grand theft and criminal mischief. The post added that the actor will not be attending any upcoming industry events in the next two months, but has plans to return to work by the end of the summer. Brendon previously entered rehab in 2004 and 2010. His manager requested nothing but positivity on the actor's facebook page.
"We ask that this page be filled with positive messages as we support Nicky on his road to recovery. Words of encouragement can be emailed to us at publicity@bloodybombshell.com so that we may forward them to him during his time away," the post read.
The "Criminal Minds" actor was last arrested in March in Tallahassee, Fla., and charged with damage to property and criminal mischief. Brendon was previously arrested in February on suspicion of grand theft and criminal mischief in Fort Lauderdale.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter his manager said, "Nicholas is excited for the opportunity that comes with recovery. He knows it will be a long and difficult road, but he's happy that he's receiving the help he needs. We support him 100 percent."
