Majority of people probably can't afford to eat at the establishments about to be mentioned, but the World's Best Restaurants 2015 were announced on Monday night.
El Celler de Can Roca in Spain came in as the top place to eat, and earned the Best Restaurant award, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. It was ranked second on the list in 2014, when it was topped only by Noma, which is in Copenhagen. Noma dropped to third on the list this year. Osteria Francescana, located in Modena, Italy, also finished ahead of Noma in the new rankings.
Out of the top 10 restaurants, two are located in Spain. The top two American restaurants, Eleven Madison Park and Alinea, came in at no. 5 and no. 26, respectively. Both had higher ratings in 2014.
This year's rankings come with a helping of controversy. As The New York Times reported, many opponents of the list are not happy that a large number of the voters are influential in the food business. Some are even chefs, according to the report. There is a group, called Occupy 50 Best, that is gaining steam to bring s few issues in the voting process to light.
On top of the conflict of interest issue, Occupy 50 Best claims nobody knows how the "jury" is chosen and believes that, because there is no hard proof to show, some voters may not even go and eat at restaurants they vote for.
