Four people on a ride at England's Alton Towers Resort were severely injured when the attraction's "The Smiler" roller coaster crashed Tuesday, according to The Independent. These included four teenagers, Fox News reported.
Luckily, the adolescents were rescued when firefighters, paramedics and ambulance crews responded on the scene.
"The resort's fully qualified first responders were on the scene immediately to assist with the evacuation which is ongoing, and the area has been closed to allow for access to emergency services vehicles," an official involved in the accident's aftermath said in a statement, according to The Independent.
"There will be a full investigation once we have recovered the guests who are our priority," the statement said, according to Fox News.
The Smiler has been open since May 2013, The Independent reported. Disaster would strike in July of 2013, however, when a bolt reportedly dropped from the ride.
