GRL Splits 9 Months After Band Member Simone Battle's Death

Girl group GRL has confirmed that it has split up, nine months after the death of band member Simone Battle.

The split was confirmed through a joint statement released by the girl group's record label Kemosabe Records, RCA Records and their managers Larry Rudolph and Robin Antin, who was the group's founder.

"Nearly nine months following the tragic death of band member Simone Battle, girl group GRL announces today that they are disbanding. We wish them continued success in each of their next creative endeavors" the statement read.

Lauren Bennett then took to Twitter to thank fans for sticking with the group through "the tough times".

Speculation about the future of the girl group started when band members Paula van Oppen and Emmalyn Estrada removed the band's name in their respective Twitter handles, according to Digital Spy.

The group continued as a four-piece after Battle committed suicide in September of last year, releasing "Lighthouse" as a tribute for their late band member.

Since their formation in 2013 by Antin, the band had only released an EP that contained five tracks and never released a full studio album.

The group was featured in Pitbull's track "Wild Wild Love," which made the Top 40 in the U.S., according to a report from the Daily Mail. Their single "Ugly Heart" did well in Australia, reaching the ARIA Top 10 back in 2014.
