Late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon has revealed that their new baby daughter was born via a surrogate.
Jimmy Fallon and wife Nancy Juvonen Fallon welcomed a new member into their family, a baby girl, two weeks ago. The 38-year-old comedian revealed that he and his wife had their first baby girl, Winnie Rose, via a surrogate after fighting fertility struggles. In an interview with TODAY, Fallon shared the secret but also expressed his excitement at having the little one around.
"It wasn't really a secret, but my wife and I had been trying for awhile to have a baby. We've tried a bunch of different things, so we had a surrogate," the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon host told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie.
Well, what's more to a father than an awesome baby. Fallon chose not to reveal the news of pregnancy until the couple became first-time parents. But when they were actually blessed with a baby girl July 23, the couple had a last-minute turn around.
"When it happened we were in shock. We're like, 'Alright, who do we tell? Who's going to be mad at us if this gets out?'" he recalls. "We had to call everybody and it's so emotional when you call everybody."
More couples are turning to surrogacy to start or grow their families. Not just celebrities but non-celebs have also joined the trend and it is becoming more common in the United States, according to recent statistics from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Some couples including Heather & James Gwinup, Elton John & David Furnish, Giuliana and husband Bill Rancic, and Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have all gone for surrogacy. It is fast becoming a viable option for people who have difficulty conceiving.
