"It happened on the 103rd floor at the top of the Empire State Building," an insider confirmed to Life & Style. "It was totally romantic and Ashley's over the moon, of course!"
The sky was the limit for Tisdale's excitement, when she broke the news to her more than ten million fans on Twitter.
"Best night of my life. We're on top of the world," Tisdale tweeted.
While some of Tisdale's friends were left surprised by the sudden proposal, others confirmed being kept in the loop about French's plans to propose to their best friend. "He had been planning on it for awhile. I think she knew it was coming but she is so happy," a source told US Weekly.
Tisdale was spotted flashing two bands on her engagement finger as the newly-engaged couple strolled through the streets of New York ,Friday, according to E! Online.
"Excited to run around and have a shopping day in nyc!! Woo hoo," she tweeted Friday.
Tisdale and French have been dating each other since December last year. The 28-year-old actress previously dated "Step Up Revolution" director Scott Speer before splitting in 2011. She was also romantically linked to "Boys Like Girls" musician Martin Johnson. This is the first time the actress has officially been engaged.
