Katy Perry has been prepping hard for the release of her fourth studio album, "Prism," and its first single, "ROAR," which she promised fans would have a more mature sound after ceremoniously burning her blue wing from her "Teenage Dream" era in the single's teaser video. Now the new song has leaked early, and you can listen here!
It's a fitting song title for a singer frequently referred to as "Kitty Purry," an uplifting, midtempo pop anthem that references "Eye of the Tiger" and features the star's signature soaring vocal style.
While it may not be as dark and somber as some fans were expecting (based on the star's promo video where she burned the said blue wig), it does recall her highly successful singles "Part Of Me" and "Wide Awake" with its empowering lyrics, though it may not be quite as catchy or powerful.
However, fans seem to be in love with the new song already, tweeting and hashtagging the lyrics with abandon, although some are upset on behalf of the star that the song she worked so hard on leaked early, presumably without her consent.
"I actually feel bad for [Katy] because she would have worked so hard to make," one fan tweeted, while another fan tweeted: "PERFECTION to a T, someone please pinch me so i'm not dreaming & this is real. Wasn't going to listen til Monday but..."
Perry's fourth album "Prism" is scheduled to be released on Oct. 22, just in time to battle it out on the Billboard charts with fellow pop queen Lady GaGa, whose highly anticipated album "ARTPOP" will be available Nov. 11.
So far, confirmed tracks for "Prism" include "ROAR," "Double Rainbow," "Bad Photographs," "It Takes Two" and "Unconditional," and according to Katy Perry's Wikia, the star wants her physical CDs to be scented like meat, a throwback to the way her "Teenage Dream" albums were scented like cotton candy.
