Jerry Collins, Former All Blacks Rugby Player, Dies In Car Crash

Former All Blacks rugby player Jerry Collins has died in a car crash in France, the New Zealand embassy in France confirmed.

The 34-year-old's wife, Alana Madill, also died in the Friday wreck, while their 3-month-old daughter, Ayla, is currently in a hospital in Montpillier "in a desperate state," according to TVNZ.

The accident took place in a town in Beziers when Collins' car suddenly stopped on the A9 highway and then was hit by a bus.

The driver of the bus, carrying tourists from Portugal, was lightly injured, according to Agence France-Presse.

Collins began his career in 2001 in Argentina, and it came to an end when he was just 26 years old after his team lost to France in the FIFA World Cup in 2007.

The All Blacks' official website described Collins as "one of the toughest and most uncompromising forwards to ever play for the All Blacks and his ferocious tackling and intimidating presence made him feared by every opponent."
