On Thursday, Israel's Tel Aviv extended an invitation to Caitlyn Jenner to be a guest of honor at its annual LGBT Pride week, which begins on Sunday.
"She can be an ambassador for the transgender community," said Tel Aviv spokeswoman Hannah Confino, according to the DPA news agency.
Sixty-five-year-old Jenner, an American gold medal decathlete and reality show star, grabbed headlines this week with her recent transition into a woman.
"When I watched your interview with Diane Sawyer, I was amazed by your courage and determination to live your life as you please," Tel Aviv Council Member Yaniv Waizman wrote to Jenner, according to Ynetnews.
"The fact that you opened a window into your life and revealed the personal and complex process you had gone through, and the difficulties standing in your way, has turned you into a source of inspiration for us in Tel Aviv," said Waizman, who is in charge of the LGBT affairs in Tel Aviv.
The city is now waiting for Jenner's response to the invitation, reported Haaretz.
"After learning about the process you went through, there have been many calls in the LGBT community to invite you to take part in Tel Aviv-Jaffa's pride events as the community's guest of honor," said Waizman in the invitation, according to Ynetnews.
Tel Aviv's 17th annual LGBT Pride week will take place June 7-12. This year, the festival will emphasize the transgender community, according to the Jerusalem Post. The Israeli city has recently become one of the world's most famous gay tourist destinations. The Tel Aviv Municipality expects an all-time record 180,000 participants, including some 30,000 tourists from abroad, making it Asia's largest ever LGBT pride festival.
