The Chicago Bears' passing game will rightly revolve around Alshon Jeffery and rookie first-rounder Kevin White this season. Even free agent addition Eddie Royal will get some looks. But Bears fans shouldn't sleep on third year wideout Marquess Wilson in this offense.
Wilson looked primed for a bigger role last year until a broken collarbone in training camp kept him sidelined until the second half of the season. In seven regular season games he managed just 17 receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown.
With all of the additions at WR this offseason, it would be fair to assume that Wilson won't see much action in 2015. But the 2013 seventh-rounder is making the most of his offseason opportunities to make an impression on new Bears head coach John Fox.
"It was probably a frustrating start to his career, but he caught our eye as a guy that we were impressed with on the tape, albeit limited tape and I've liked what I've seen during these first six practice opportunities," Fox said.
Physically, there's a lot to like in Wilson's case. He stands 6-foot-4, the type of big target quarterback Jay Cutler loves throwing to. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to put everything together just yet in his young career. Perhaps year 3, believed to be the season in which wide receivers reach their full potential, will see a leap from Wilson. If that happens, Cutler will have a bevy of big and talented targets to throw to.
